Long distance runners it typically for the Alano shape of long-legged , high cardio dogs : Drogo Mosqueteros above and Quixote his grandfather below

Wrotka, the mother of the current litter, comes from the pairing of Estoque and Orbea. She is lighter than her mother. She has a strong catching instinct and works excellently with cattle. Like all dogs from the Carpintero line, she develops very slowly. Urwis, the father of the litter, is the son of Sznurek (Hilo x Chula), also fawn-colored, athletic, with an extraordinarily high cardio combined with a great hunting passion. Both parents do not exactly fit our type of high-legged dog with a large, flat head. Although Wrotka is certainly closer to this ideal. However, we expect the accumulation of genes from previous generations and light but athletic dogs with the full range of typical Alano traits and instincts. The temperament and endurance qualities will be emphasized by the structure typical of long-distance runners.

Females in outcross line breeding - Chula de Arbaiza ( los Hoyos line) above and Pampera ( alaju/viesques line) below

The introduction of Chuli de Arbaiza, representing the Los Hoyos line, perfectly complemented the potential of the Quijote Line. A similar effect was achieved by using Pampera, representing the Alaju and Viesques lines, to cross with Drogo. Morita Valdezufre had only one offspring – Sufi. Sufi's father was Hanon Los Tercios, also originating from the Carpintero line. The litter resulting from the crossing of Sufi with Hilo (Quijote line) produced strong dogs that perfectly combined the traits of both lines. Sufi's daughters, Orbea and Octagon, were crossed with Estoque, the son of Drogo and Pampera.

Through consistent selection in subsequent generations, we remove unfavorable linkages accumulated in the genotype, obtaining individuals that possess the desired Alano traits while simultaneously eliminating desirable ones that were previously inseparably connected with them. This is a time-consuming process and requires patience, but it is the cornerstone of modern breeding.

Dogs from Vadezufre - Rehala of Cecil Romero with Carpitero bloodline in early 2000

At the same time, we worked on the Quixote line, which we managed to develop thanks to several exceptional women.

Calarbia de las Tinienlas, daughter of Curro de Tameran, became the mother of dogs that are still represented today in the female line such as Araya and her daughter Flecha's offspring. We also met Calabria's mother, Alusca de Maienza, in Archidona in 2005.

Creating linebreeding involves deliberately repeating a selected dog whose genotype exhibits the desired expression in subsequent generations. This technique is related to the selection of the offspring of the chosen dog for breeding. It does not involve copying the genotype of the line dog as in inbreeding. Nevertheless, breeding based on lines requires maintaining several selected genotypes. This allows for outcrossing between lines to reduce the risk of reproducing undesirable traits. In small populations and closely related groups, as is the case with breed recovery, the phenomenon of gene linkage or pleiotropy occurs. The pedigree of the puppies from the current litter shows the breaking of the Quioxote line, which we achieved by crossing with other lines. This technique increases the probability of recombination (crossing over) between the desired and undesired genes to separate these traits.

Each litter in our kennel is a story of a breeding plan built over the years, against the odds, based on the experiences gained from each previous generation. This is also the case this time. It did not come about by chance. It is the result of consistently creating a plan that leads to the consolidation of Alano's traits. Consistency is hard to believe today. These are a few glimpses from the first decade of the 2000s when we were building the genetic base of the kennel and gaining knowledge about the genetic conditions of the Alano. Contacts with breeders were established through direct visits and email exchanges; social media was still in its early stages of development. A special place at that time was Feria del Perro in Archidona. The organizers of this event presented packs of rehalas, which allowed hunting dogs. It was there in 2003 that dogs from the Carpintero line belonging to Cecil Romero from Valdezufre could be seen. Charismatic, with strong expressions, they perfectly presented the image of Alano as a fighting dog used during the conquest. Thanks to this presentation, we were able to meet Moro de Valdezufre. A dog that embodied many Alano traits. After several years of efforts, his daughter, from the last litter he fathered, came to us. Morita Valdezufre.

The current litter is another element of a well-thought-out breeding plan. It is a consequence of previous actions. The breeding result is a triple break of the Quixote line. Quixote appears in the genealogy three times in the fourth generation and three times in the fifth. His descendants were crossed with females from unrelated lines. The light-built female Pampera – the mother of Estoque – comes from the crossing of the Alaju and Viesques lines. Flo – the mother of Aracena – is also a light-built female from the Fuente de la Higuera kennel, which is based on strong dogs from northern Spain. The outcross effects between the lines are strengthened by Etna, the daughter of Brytan and Veleta des Huerto de los Leones, present in the third generation of puppies born by Aracena. Thanks to the break, it is possible to continue working on the line, obtaining the strengthening of desired traits and eliminating the risk of accumulating potential defects. We aim for light, long-legged dogs that move at a gallop. They are characterized by a dry build, without excess skin on the head, with tight lips, a broad, flat head, slanted eyes, and a scissor bite. All dogs have excellent cardio, a strong instinct to catch, and are very social. The parents are tall dogs – Azbest is 73 cm at the withers, and Aracena is 66 cm. Four puppies were born, characterized by great potential for development towards the type of build preferred by us in the Quixote line..

Drogo Musqueterros

Estoque Musquterros comes from the line of Quijote marked by outstanding dogs like Drogo, Hierro, and Hito. This combination was crossed by the female called Pampera in origin within the oldest lines of modern alano - Alaju and Vieques. Both parents represent pure athleticism and running skills at the top level. Noble, typical conformation for long-distance gallopers and catching instinct.
