Vengo Estrella and her granddaughter Vengo Negra are representing progressive breeding as well in out line breeding

Hispano was used in southern Spain there had two extraordinary descendants – Letisco del Almanzores and Quijote de Caracuel. In recent years group of friends ( Pumarejo, Burguillos del Cerro, Almanzores) work closely in breeding of offspring these both males. The results are very good and forming basis of hope. We founded Quijote line in our kennel and developing it. The successful effect in this line came from female (Tizona), that was the grandmother of Hispano. Most breeders missed impressive impact of transmission by females. It was an opportunity for proper breeding program preserving and enhanced wanted traits without defecting by inbreeding and diversity loss.
Breeding means selection for preservation and developing wanted traits. Selection key is not easy for most people because of its no emotional character. Selection use gene pool expression perspective, it doesn’t matter if You like this or this dog mostly, the transmission of wanted characteristic is essential.
Most effective and progressive method is line breeding with upgrades and outcrosses in some of the generations. That required a pretty big number of the dogs in the kennel and carefully observing the transmission of wanted characteristics in generations. Each generation should be closer to the prescriptive idea of alano.

Tizona de los tarantos - transmitted to some of her descendants typically structure of alano.

Carpintero line was developed by twin kennels – Condado del Niebla and los Cuadrejones. Ten years later their breeding resulted by the dog called Taranto de los Cuadrejones. He was a basis for developing in another well-established line called from its founder Hispano line. Hispano del Castillo del Encinar is an effect by double-crossing alaju line with Carpintero line.

Carpintero line was established in 90ties, based on the charismatic dog with powerful conformation and strong expression. His breeding developed line, that extinct in pure form today. Carpintero line was successfully another example of gene pool potential of encartationes dogs, that selecting resulted in dogs like Carbonero.

Recuperation breeding is balancing on recover significant traits of Asian incomer and inherited characteristic by native dogs in gene flow resulting in two parts name :Alano Espanol.

Dogs from Encarationes were not alanos from medieval’s descriptions or even from photos taken in rehalas of Antonio Covarsi or Duke of Arion in the early years of XX century. They just had highest potential of genetic resources of Alano. Decades of gene flow to local presa dogs changed the gene pool and transmission typically traits of Alano. Recuperation needed time and consequence in selection keys to extract the wanted type.

bloodlines

Bloodlines are linked in general to certain breeders or farms and it is a reflection not only of their genetic isolation but practices of that individual breeder and his selection. In alano names of bloodlines use to be linked to the males' founders dogs. Female lines are not defined in alano by names although they exist. Sometimes are using kennels name for indicate types of selecting dogs that is not related to bloodline in genetic meaning.

All dogs in the breed are descendants of foundation group dogs from Encartationes region. Even dogs belong to Angel Serrano since early 60-ties o the XX century ( as he mentioned) – that means 20 years before the recuperation period – are linked to this foundation group. That defines discussion about bloodlines. All started in recuperation breeding program. We have knowledge about ancestors of the foundation group dogs just in few specimens like Conchita or Txuri. Most of the dogs were linked by the nicknames to the family surname or location.

Alano is very broad concept in Spanish. In XX century has become a synonym for native catching dog. Therefore breeding aimed at the primal type of Alano is so difficult.

Is very easy to write praises for own dogs or write criticism about others, put some photos presented skills and conformation. Much harder is presenting consequence, perseverance and results in consecutive generations. We are working on two lines in breeding – Quijote line established in our kennel and the second one who’s the recreation of Carpintero line. Generation by generation, with carefully observing of transmission of each litter,  we are continuing the breeding program. It was not easy, but rewarding in typically alano and be approved by godfathers of this breed. Continuing this work by our friends avid hunters and alaneros ( Daniel Vicente Lopez ,Francisco Casillas DelgadoJuan Murillo Nogales ,  Věroslav Orlovský ) is tribute to unique dog as Quijote was and big honor for us.

We are entering new decade as the kennel. It is right moment for few remarks our work system and philosophy. Our work in last several years wasn’t possible without support some great people, they introduced us into alanos and presented all aspects of this magnificent breed. Paco Garcia Esacanciano spread to us his fascination the alanos as the first, patience long email exchanges with Javier Parra Gordillo convinced us of unique character of Alano. Meeting with Daniel Vicente Lopez turned into real friendship and co-breeding continues to this day. Daniel and David Lopez Blanco invited us to organized by them meeting with Manuel Jarren (breeder of los Cuadrejones kennel and creator of Carpintero line).  Kindness of Carlos Contera  was opportunity of meeting with him  twice in last 10 years and gave us advantage of a range of his advices on how to breeding and developing Alano properly.
